GIST: Olusola Saraki dies at 79

The pillar of politics in Kwara State and former senate leader Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki has passed away.
Aged 79, Saraki is reported to have died this morning, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at a London hospital.
Saraki up till his death served as the Waziri of the Ilorin Emirate. He was one of the most influential Nigerian politicians of his time, and the most powerful man in Kwara politics.
A graduate of the University of London, and St George’s Hospital Medical School, Saraki served as a Senator in the second republic in 1979 and was re-elected into the Senate in 1983.
In 2003, he supported his son Bukola Saraki to win the Kwara state gubernatorial elections, and also his daughter Gbemisola R. Saraki as senator for Kwara State Central.
He however failed to install Gbemisola, as Kwara governor in 2011, in an intense campaign that pitched him against his son Bukola, whose protege eventually won the Kwara governorship elections…
